The NorthStar Detector communicates with a host device using a serial interface protocol. The detector provides the following outputs by serial interface:
- Spot Positions (x,y) in detector coordinates, for all visible spots
- Spot Strength Magnitude, for all visible spots
- Spot ID Codes for all visible spots
- Detector Pose (X, Y, Θ) in room coordinates, for all visible spot pairs
The NorthStar Detector will operate in two communication modes: continuous, and on-demand. In the continuous communication mode, the detector will provide a continuous stream of data, at a selectable update rate (typically, 10Hz). The specific data provided in each update is user selectable, and can be modified during continuous streaming. In the on-demand communication mode, the detector continues to take readings at its selected update rate. However, the detector only sends individual updates in response to commanded requests. In this communication mode, the detector may be commanded to output the most recent measurement (with near-zero wait time, and data up to 100msec old), or the next available measurement (100% up-to-date data, and up to 100msec wait time).
